The book covers topics from helping children attack words using simple phonic skills to adjusting reading rates for older readers. Each topic includes a description of the reading skill and then a myriad of activities, games and techniques that can be used to improve reading in that skill area. Illustrations make the activities easy to read and create for children. A must for anyone working with readers who need help. 15 of 15 people found the following review helpful By A Customer This review is from: Remediating Reading Difficulties (Spiral-bound) What is so wonderful about this book is that it contains explicit directions for reading activities that support the learning theories presented. It's not some esoteric treatise on reading problems, nor is it difficult to implement the activities described in this book. It also is progressive, so that more basic reading problems as well as higher-level problems are addressed equally. Furthermore, Crawley has also included some great hints on how learning can be supported in the home. On the whole, it is one of the most practical resources a reading teacher can have in his or her library. It gives instructors a good variety of techniques and activities to teach in a classroom. |
